Smoking Guitars and 10,000 Volts: The Art Behind Our Designs
Every Ace Frehley design in our collection comes from one part of his story: the lightning bolt, the smoking guitar, the Spaceman or the records. Here's what each one shows, so you can find the one that fits you.
What is the lightning bolt?
A jagged lightning bolt runs through Ace's own logo and much of his later artwork. Our Bolt Logo design puts his name across a circle split by the bolt, in clean white. The 10,000 Volts designs take it bigger: one in polished chrome, and one in flat grey that runs across both the front and the back.
Why a smoking guitar?
On stage, Ace played a guitar rigged to pour smoke from its pickup, one of the best-known tricks in rock. The Smoking Guitar design shows a cherry sunburst guitar wrapped in white smoke. Shock Me shows Ace himself in the middle of a solo, with smoke rolling off the guitar and a yellow lightning bolt behind him.
Which designs show the Spaceman?
- Signature Spaceman: the Spaceman's face in icy blue and silver, with an autograph below.
- Spaceman Stencil: half of the star-burst make-up in solid white.
- Star Line Art: a black-ink drawing of Ace playing, with a big star and a bolt behind him.
What about the albums?
10,000 Volts came out on February 23, 2024, and was his tenth and final studio album. Our Origins Vol. 1 design uses the floating New York artwork of his 2016 covers album, and Origins Night City shows Ace at night in front of a floating, blue-lit New York, with a lightning-bolt moon above.
